Italian Song

Matteo Carcassi

This piece by Matteo Carcassi (1792 - 1853) resembles a well-known opera tune. It sounds very familiar to me, but I cannot name it. If you recognize it, please mail me, so I can adapt the story a bit.

The piece originates from a later published set of four Theme/Variations from the Boije Collection. It has no opus number, so I guess that the then publisher had made an anthology.

The piece has a joyful march like theme that is elaborated in two variations. The structure is a bit more unconventional than Non Piu Mesta or the variations on the Swiss folk songs - the Airs Montagnards - on this site. It’s a nice piece to be playful and bring out some of the drama.
