( after Ritchie Valens )
During my brief career as an amateur-guitar teacher I have made some arrangements of classical pieces for a duo setting, with a relatively simple melody part and an accompaniment for the teacher. My aim was to start playing together as soon as possible.
La Bamba was a traditional Mexican song that became famous because of the setting by Ritchie Valens (1941 - 1959), a clear representative of the so called Chicano Rock, pop music with Latin influences. Because I made this setting for beginners, I omitted the triplets and imitated their effect in eigth notes.
The piece was very suitable for separation of melody and accompaniment. After some trickery with Sibelius, this duo was the result.
