A Cachimbo is a Chilean folk dance, but the word also means "fresher" in the neighbouring country Peru. I guess it’s a hint for the atmosphere of the piece. The piece is a joyful guitar trio with an accompaniment in the well-known 6/8 - 3/4 pattern which provides the song with a typical Latin rhythm. Eythor Thorlaksson made the arrangement.

The Mermaid is a well-known English Sailor's song, arranged by Derek Hasted for four guitars. Mermaids were quite real in the superstitious minds of the sailors of old, they presented a bad omen! The lyrics of the song show why!

Sheet Music

A rhythmic song was quite useful to cheer up and to synchronize the hard work on the sailing ships of old. If you are pulling a rope with some men, the song will help you to synchronize the efforts. This Sailor's Hornpipe is a dance form. You will recognize the theme when you listen to the last part of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. Derek Hasted arranged it for three guitars. If you have more players, just double the parts.

Sheet Music

This is an arrangement by Andrew Forrest for four guitars of the old English popular song Sage Leaf. I know Sage Leaf as a solo piece from the arrangements of the Playford Tunes, the latter also known as The English Dancing Master, a volume which was published by John Playford in 1651. It is a joyful theme which might cause a bit of fear for heights for particularly the first guitar. Practice will do the job!
