Rondo uit Duo in G
( Fernando Carulli )
This is the Rondo from the well known Duo in G van Fernando Carulli. I heard the duo for the first time on the Together albums, played by John Williams and Julian Bream. It is a movement which lends itself to virtuosity, although it is extremely important to keep the clarity of the piece, over-virtuosity will turn it into a mess of notes in a poor sewing machine sound. An approach like Mitsuko Uchida as she plays the Mozart sonates will turn this Rondo into a little jewel.
Fernando Carulli was a self-taught guitarist and composer. At a certain moment he moved to Paris where he gave recitals, composed numerous pieces and found him surrounded by fans, a fact he did like. Apart from more demanding material, he composed numerous small and relatively easy pieces for guitar alone and various ensembles, which were quite popular with beginners on the guitar. Additionally he wrote his Méthode Complète, a didactic guitar method which is still used today.
