Manha de Carnaval
( Luis Bonfa )
The well-known and moving theme from the movie Orfeo Negro, a Brazilian cult film, many well-known musicians contributed to. The story is based on the Greek myth of Orfeus and Eurydice, with as moral: "If you continue looking back, you will fall flat on your face", in the literal and figurative sense.
Luiz Floriano Bonfa (1922-2001) taught himself to play guitar. As a 12 year old he started his studies with Isaias Savio, who appreciated Luis' commitment to the guitar so much, that he did not ask any fee for teaching him. Bonfa became a musician and got in touch with the bossa nova movement. His contribution to Orfeo Negro made him world-famous.
